Mental Health Primary Care – Innovations in Action

This session will explore two innovative approaches by Physicians in BC to effectively engage people who experience mental health issues to understand more about their illness and learn techniques to better manage their health and wellness.  This session will inspire others to advocate for changes across Canada to ensure better access and better treatment.

Dr. Ron Remick, Medical Director, Mood Disorders Association.  Psychiatric Urgent Assessment Program.  He will present an innovative partnership with the Mood Disorders Association of BC and how he has reduced the wait time from GP referral to psychiatric treatment from 5 months to 4 weeks through group visits and email support from a psychiatrist.

Dr. Kendall Ho, Director, e-Health Strategy Office, UBC – Faculty of Medicine will describe how technology has been used to reach out to culturally diverse audience.  In addition, Dr. Ho will discuss how the technology has been facilitative of engaging patients and their families in identifying and managing their mental and physical health care.
